TATUM'S PLACE
Welcome to Tatum's Place
Tatum's Place is a 501(c)3 non-profit. It came to fruition due to a need from a mom of a very special child(Tatum) who is on the Autism spectrum. We hope to start accepting clients Spring 2024. We are currently fundraising.
Raising a child with autism comes with many joys, but there is no doubt it can be challenging and, at times, exhausting. Many parents put aside their own physical and mental health, partners, friends, hobbies and interests to solely focus on their child. Though it is easy to forget, it is important to keep in mind that to take the best possible care of your loved one with autism, you must take care of yourself. This can often mean taking short breaks to go to your own doctor appointments, go out with your spouse or a friend, rest, or do something just for you.
“ I have been very blessed to be able to find and afford loving caregivers on this journey. Without it, this journey would be even harder to navigate. Tatum's place came from a need of my own. A need that I saw in many groups of families caring for a child or children with Autism.”
Respite care is short-term care for a child or adult that allows the primary caregiver relief.
Why Use Respite Care?
- If you don’t take care of your own needs, you will have a much harder time taking care of your child.
- Respite care reduces your stress levels and the risk of burnout.
- Having time to spend alone with your partner or your other children helps your whole family have better relationships with each other.
- It’s very easy for us to let our own health suffer while we care for our children. Respite is important for taking care of our physical and mental health.
- Caring for a child with a disability or special health care needs is much more than a 40-hour-a-week job. You deserve some time off!
